_drush_entity_get_info needs base table info for versions before D7 so we can still use this function to get info but also use this to query the db. For this we need the base table in the info array. Unless I have missed something?

This was also a remaining task of the original issue

Fuzzy remark: The D7 seems to work ok apart from deleting anything but nodes.

We need more test cases for other entity types.

For D5/6 

function _drush_entity_get_info

needs more meta data for eg 'delete callback' and implementation.:-(
