When you view the list of forums, it shows you which have new topics but not which have new comments on existing topics. I think this distinction is artificial and confusing; users want to see where new content has been posted, so this page should treat topics with new comments as new topics. Users shouldn't have to drill down into every topic to find out which ones have new comments. Nor should they have to use the tracker module -- it's not adequate because it mingles all forums together, which many novice users certainly don't want.

Here's a patch to implement this functionality, based on the patches I submitted in issue 6371.

Please set the status to 'patch' so it shows up in the patch queue.

Will your patch apply against HEAD? DRUPAL-4-3 is a stable branch: it's frozen.

I don't know if this will apply against HEAD. I can't use HEAD right now because I need a stable code base for the site I'm running. If you can't try applying my changes against HEAD, then I suppose I'll eventually get around to it after 4.4 is released.

Apparently when previewing a new forum topic, $tid is set to an array rather than an integer. I'm not sure exactly why this is, but it breaks the patch I submitted previously. Attached is an additional patch.

I'll eventually get around to porting all of these patches to 4.4, but I can't commit to when I'll do it. I you haven't done the porting by then and closed these tickets, I'll submit new patches at that point.

I've merged the fix for this into issue 6371.
