By creating a new node, the “Parent item” select box is not providing an easy survay. Especially for the new user, it is extremely confusing and discouraging.

There is a useful module for improving the UI in this case: Hierarchical Select Menu (part of Hierarchical Select).

I'm closing the issue, since there is a module for that.
