I have enabled the Contact module on the modules page, however when I go to Site Building, there is no link to configure the contact form. When I manually go to build/contact it merely displays the same Site Building menu. I have searched everywhere in the admin pages and there is no reference to the Contact module except on the module page. I have tried the following:
1. I tried unchecking the box, saving it, then rechecking the box and saving again. Made no difference.
2. I downloaded, installed and enabled the Contact Forms module. I see it at the bottom of the modules list, and it is enabled. It shows "Depends on: Contact (enabled)" and if I look at the Contact listing it shows "Required by: Contact Forms (enabled)". According to this page, everything should work fine. Still no config page to be found.
3. Manually going to build/contact/settings still yields only the Site Building menu.
4. Cleared the cache - no change.
5. Switched my theme back to default Garland. Still no config page to be found.
6. Installed Webforms module. That works and I can configure that, but Contact module is still not configurable. I don't want to use Webforms. I just want a simple contact form.
I am at a loss as to what to try next. I can find no other instances of anyone else having this bizarre problem. Everything else seems to work perfectly, and my installation of Drupal 6.9 had no issues. I am using Dreamhost shared hosting and have the following other modules installed: Global Redirect, Meta Tags, Pathauto, Token, Token actions, Contact Forms, Webform. All modules work EXCEPT for Contact Forms. I only installed Contact Forms hoping it would fix the problem I was having with the built-in Contact module.
What else should I try?

dave reidDoes your user have the 'administer site-wide contact form' permission in admin/user/permissions?

packdragon commentedI am using the primary super-user account, which should have permissions to do everything. If I go to admin/user/permissions, the word "contact" does not exist anywhere on the page. It is as if the module does not exist, except on the modules page.

dave reidIf that's the case, then the module definately did not install correctly. I suggest disabling and uninstalling (make sure to do this step!) both the core contact and your Contact Forms module. Then re-enable the core contact module.

packdragon commentedMystery solved!
I unenabled the module and uninstalled like you said, then re-enabled. There was still no contact page. So I FTPed in and compared the file contents of that module's folder to the original drupal files... something I should have done earlier. The contact.module file was 0 in files size. So I copied the file over again, uninstalled and then re-enabled the contact module, and now it works! Thanks so much Dave for pointing me in the right direction!

dave reidThat was going to be my second suggestion, make sure the file was copied correctly. Glad to know you got it working!
