teasers missing

I have no teasers in any content types and when I go to edit the content types there is no teaser field. I used to have them prior to upgrade to 6x but I am not sure if it was the upgrade that caused the problem as I did that a few months back but only now noticed the problem. I have length of trimmed posts set to 200. Even creating a new content type does not let me show teasers. I used to use nodeteaser but got rid of it before the upgrade. I use views and cck but have tried removing both and they are not the problem.

Thanks for the help -
