Problem/Motivation

The issue #3364659: Give display modes a description added the ability to provide descriptions for view modes, but currently no such descriptions exist. Implementing the ability to add descriptions without actually adding them was intentional: Creating these descriptions is a "docs mindset" task that could take several rounds of review to get right - composing those descriptions should get the attention it deserves without blocking or distracting from the feature itself

Steps to reproduce

Proposed resolution

  • Start by adding descriptions for all description-worthy view modes within this issue
  • Be open to possibly turning this into a meta + child issues if it's too overwhelming to review all of them in one MR, or if a few tricky-to-word descriptions is preventing a large batch of already-fine descriptions from landing.

I think this is a duplicate of https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal/issues/671268.

This one has a clearer title, at first I confused "Add descriptions" to mean adding the feature, which we already have.
