I've added a new field of type link to the Basic page content type, set the Allowed link type to Both internal and external links and the Allow link text set to optional.I've also increased Link text trimmed to 200 characters so it fits all my URL's.

If I now try to link to an url like this: http://subdomain.example.com/cgi-bin/dhi-iarticle_query?1898DNRUC..58R.128. the href gets changed to this: http://subdomainexample.com/cgi-bin/dhi-iarticle_query?1898DNRUC__58R_128_=
