i run the installation. in step 3 i enter the required information about my database and i click on 'save and continue'... it neither gives any errors nor goes to the next step ?!?

problem resolved.
i didn't know that i must have both settings.php and default.settings.php in the ./sites/default folder. now it installs perfectly

Now I'm having the same problem installing but I have both the default.settings.php and the settings.php files.

All it does when I enter my database info and click continue is it spits out the same page I'm on. Please help

ok, I figured it out, you have to copy the default.settings.php file to settings.php and then make sure you assign full read and write privileges to the file for user IUSR/ temporarily. That's how I got it to work. Hope this helps...;
