This is a method from AssertContentTrait that's being called by tests in core and 15+ core modules in dozens of places. Providing it for BC should help converting many of the tests to BTB.

It would also help any contrib modules trying to convert that make use of FieldUITestTrait->fieldUIAddExistingField(), for example paragraphs.

I doubt this is possible the way how the mink abstraction layer works.
If you don't use an actual browser to get the stuff of your request, IMHO the right thing to do would be to use a kernel test.
