function system_init() {
  // Use the administrative theme if the user is looking at a page in the admin/* path.
  if (arg(0) == 'admin' || (variable_get('node_admin_theme', '0') && arg(0) == 'node' && (arg(1) == 'add' || arg(2) == 'edit'))) {
    global $custom_theme;
...

should be

  if (arg(0) == 'admin' || (variable_get('node_admin_theme', '0') && arg(0) == 'node' && (arg(1) == 'add' || arg(2) == 'edit' || arg(2) == 'delete'))) {

Should really be:

if (arg(0) == 'admin' || (variable_get('node_admin_theme', '0') && arg(0) == 'node' && (arg(1) == 'add' || arg(2) == 'edit' || arg(2) == 'delete' || arg(2) == 'revisions'))) {

I agree with the sentiment here, unfortunately changes to the API like this won't make it into D6. You may be interested in theme key https://drupal.org/project/themekey

The admin theme switching works completely differently in D7+ so this issue is not relevant there.

Needs review means that there is a patch in the queue, there is no patch here. Please refer to https://drupal.org/node/156119

Please don't set to "needs review" without submitting a working patch - https://drupal.org/node/156119

admin themes work completely differently in D7+ so this issue doesn't apply there.
