Hi,

First i want to congratulate on a splendid looking installer and updater. But as much as this helps, im in the pits and about to ditch drupal because it is just plain impossible to find out why i doesn't work!

- What doesn't Work?

1 - installing - besides all perms and settings and pw that are right and double checked, i cannot go beyond installing, registering the user. Other than user's permissions, everything else is just "Access Denied". I tried for 24 hours in 2 days non stop to get this to work. Pulling in every trick possible i could find in the forums, supports etc...
2 - Updating - The 5.x install i have is not even that big but is bloated with cache crap, accesslogs, logs, revisions, and all this crap which i really dont need. HOW do you clean it?
2a - i tried to just import from site A to B the main data (no logs or bloaded cache datas). Impossible to update, errors all over. Site is then innoperable.

Conclusion: The beautiful update or installer is really crap or after 3-4 years of drupal i have not learned anything? There is nothing that says where the error is!

Thanks for any help to anyone willing to help resulve this bloody bug...

BTW, there's lots and lots and lots of reports of this kind. Why isn't there a case/problem resolution flowchart? It could really help!

Naturally, cookies, cache of browser, correct pw and ip or sitenames and dbnames were used each time... Im not a newbie, but a really frustrated IT professional trying to get this to work! Any help is welcome. All the help links in the help of my installation are also access denied!

the web site is monsieurx.com. The old website im trying to transfer is old.monsieurx.com. Nothing "big"... But if a simple installation cannot work from the start... Damn, there's either a big problem/bug in drupal or i shouldn't use drupal anymore...

I've left the crap from the update on monsieurx.com which should leave to not good publicity to the drupal fame until i can resolve this issue! ;)

1. Installing: I'm not clear what your exact problem is. Maybe the host I use is more Drupal-friendly?

Sorry, I don't quite follow. How far did you get through the installation process? Exactly what happened next?

2a. Updating: did you follow the instructions here http://drupal.org/drupal-6.0?

2. Cleaning out old junk:

The cache stuff is there to make your site operate faster. The accesslog is cleared out automatically when cron runs, according to the settings you specify for the statistics.module. Same for watchdog.module logs. For revisions, I think there is a module which will clean out your old revisions for you.

unfortunately the old.monsieurx.com site is gone.

I also managed to resolve some issues where the theme's folder didn't have the right permissions.
