First I installed drupal 6.2 in english, then I installed the Swedish language pack. Activated Swedish as default language.
Now in "Create Content" menu the items for forum and blog posts are translated to Swedish, but not for story, page and event. (And yes of course there are translation strings for these words).
If you choose to create content the title of the content creation page has the translated content type name for blog and forum, but not for page, story or event.

RahDick commentedConfirmed. Try this:
/modules/node/content_types.inc, lines 22-26:
I don't know whether check_plain($type->type) should be translated. It might make it a bit hard to find out the actual internal node type name if translated. I'm also not sure, whether the description should be translated inside filter_xss_admin(), or outside.

damien tournoud commentedContent types names are user-defined. As such they cannot be translated in the Drupal 6.x framework. Translation of user-defined text is a feature to be implemented in Drupal 7.x.

RahDick commented@Damien: You're right, my suggestion is only a hack to get it working on the admin/content/types page. If one wanted to translate those strings at every spot where they might occur (menu, node/add-page etc.), one had to add t() calls to the appropriate code manually. But once you're done, you can search the content type's name on the "admin/build/translate" page and... translate it. Of course, proper system integration is missing and you'll only have a translated display of the name at custom places...
