Scenario:
- add at least another language (ex.French)
- enable Multilingual support for any content type
- access the node creation page for the above CT

Expectation 1:
- the Language dropdown uses the default language as specified in "admin/config/regional/language"

Expectation 2:
- the Language dropdown uses the current language
Ex. English if accessing the page at "en/node/add", French if accessing the page at "fr/node/add" etc

Current behaviour:
- the Language dropdown doesn't have any language selected

After a quick debugging the issue seems to be in the "locale_form_node_form_alter" function, line 371.
When setting the '#default_value', $form['#node']->language is "und" for new nodes, hence the problem.
Didn't attach any patch, waiting for clarifications about the expected behaviour.

You can set the default content type language in its settings if you use the module i18n.

On admin/structure/types/manage/<your_content_type> you will get on the tab Multilingual settings:
Extended language options

  • Set current language as default for new content.
  • Require language (Do not allow Language Neutral).
  • Lock language (Cannot be changed).
