To make it clearer to users what the filterbox actually does, it would be nice to change the 'Filter' labels to 'Search'. This should clear up any confusion. (Note: I brought this up in another issue, and it was suggested that I make it a separate issue)

I've created a patch which should fix the problem. :)

I'm not so sure about that. This functionality is actually filtering aliases and not searching for them. Search implies "full text search", which is not the case. Also what does "Reset" mean, when I'm searching?
While status quo is far from easy to use, this must be thought over again for D7.

This would need to be consistently applied throughout core and approved by the UX team. Until then, this is a won't fix.
