I am repeatedly stumbling over an issue which I cannot seem to figure out. I'd be grateful for your support or some guidance how to troubleshoot this issue.

Whenever I - as an admin user - upload a user's picture, the image is uploaded fine to the filesystem, but the column in the users-table remains empty. When I set the column's value manually (with the same database user), everything is displayed just fine.

When trying to troubleshoot I followed the trail of the uploaded picture to user_validate_picture, where the filepath looks OK. Server and site's error logs remain empty. I am a bit at a loss here and would appreciate some pointers on how to proceed.
