Quite often you present users a list of options, just to have them frequently choose "other". This patch creates another field type (selectother) which pairs the normal select box with a text field which is hidden by javascript until needed. If the user chooses "other..." from the select, the text field appears and must be populated in order to validate. The data from the text field gets concatenated on to the select value and stored. I've tested this on 5.2 viewed from IE and FF on WinXP.

Tobias Maier commentedHello Tara
this sounds like a great idea.
But first of all it is a new feature and new features are only accepted for Drupal 7...
Could you re roll your patch for Drupal head, please?
I did not look that closely at the code, but I think
'Other...'needs to be in a t()-function and the JavaScript should use jQuery and live in a separate file if possible (which should be loaded if needed)Comment #2
jody lynnThis is a good idea for a new possibility in the Form API, but I doubt it will ever be committed just to profile.module.
