I get this error on my Drupal 5.2 installation:

* warning: array_merge(): Argument #2 is not an array in /srv/www/htdocs/includes/theme.inc on line 275.
* warning: array_merge(): Argument #1 is not an array in /srv/www/htdocs/includes/theme.inc on line 278.

What's calling theme.inc the wrong way?
I've tried with different themes, but the same error appears every time...

What themes and modules are you using; does this error show on all pages? You need to be more descriptive.

The core of Drupal should not be causing this. The line you pointed out has to do with the theme settings. A bad theme setting up ThemeName_features() in the wrong way or possibly the theme settings module could have caused this.

I made a clean install of Drupal 5.2, and it showed no error until I inserted the old data back into the database.
At that time, I had no extra modules installed.
Changing themes does not help, neither does enabling/disabling different modules.
Could there be some crap in the database causing this?

Re-read the "Howto update" chapter in readme.txt...
