Anonymous (not verified) commentedAs you can see I've changed the status. If you want anonymous users seeing the profiles you need to give the anonymous user the correct permissions.
Gábor Mayer commented"access user profiles" permission is not enough for access contact form.
Anonymous (not verified) commentedYes, I see. Still I feel that this is "by design".
I do not use these nor do I know if they provide the feature you desire; but perhaps one of the contributed modules, Feedback looks promising or Advanced Contact.

francewhoaHere are 2 other modules that can do something similar: http://drupal.org/node/196663#comment-1078230

Pieter Maes commentedHi there i also have the same issue,
Now I've seen many disapprove in making changes to the core module, but still i see no other way i can get the result i need.
I used the contact module 6.19 as a base, the result:
- the global contact form works for anonymous and registered users.
the admin gets the mail with the name and email address, entered by the user, in the mail body.
example
"Name of sender" (....@hotmail.com) sent a message using the contact form at http://www.mysite.com/contact/mail.
- the user contact form is almost ok , sending works not quite the way i would hope:
you get the folowing body message
"Recipients name",
(http://www.mysite.com/user/0) has sent you a message via your
contact form (http://www.mysite.be/users/recipient/contact) at
mysite.com .
If you don't want to receive such e-mails, you can change your settings at
http://www.mysite.com/users/recipient.
Message:
bla bla bla this is a test message
You can see this differs from the global form message as the name and mail address aren't send and it uses /user/0 and no name => no way you can replie to the sender unless he enters his details in the message body.
I looked at the code for the global and user mails but i don't know what causes this difference.
Can someone please help me, my site has already gone live and this is a big issue for me.
I've attached the entire modified module.
