Hey all,

Is there any way to force usernames from other forms in the registration page?

For example, I want usernames to be in the format firstname.lastname. If two users have the same name, a "2" would be added to the end, much like in the User_Import module. Right now, I'm using the profile.module and have firstname and lastname as fields, so there should be someway to force firstname.lastname as the username, right?

This functionality is not part of core. It seems like something you could create a module for to enhance the current registration process. I didn't see any current contrib module that provides the functionality you are requesting.
