I use the languages only to change the user interface. Each node only exists once for all languages. My users are reasonably multilingual, but prefer the user interface in their mother language.
When I set a URL alias for "All languages", it works very nicely. With or without language prefix in the URL the user always gets the node displayed, and the user interface stays in his preferred language. So far all is well and Drupal does exactly what I want.
However, when the node is later edited, Drupal itself changes the URL alias setting to just one language, and after that it no longer works when the URL points to any other language. I think, Drupal should not change my settings, particularly not when that breaks my web site.
The workaround is to think of this every time the node is edited and change the URL alias language setting back to "All languages". But this is rather awkward, particularly since I have to change some of these nodes almost daily, and I keep forgetting this unintuitive step.
Is there any easier workaround? Or can it be fixed? Can I remove the PHP code that keeps falsifying my URL alias settings?

hgmichna commentedIt is even worse. I just found that the URL alias works only when I am logged in (and use the default language). When not logged in, I get a "Page not found" error.
I might work around this by writing two or three lines of mod_rewrite code into the Apache config, but it would be nicer if the feature worked as expected.
