I had previously installed Drupal 7.0 on our hosted server. Now I can't. I tried 7.2, 7.1 and 7.0.
The big change is that all traffic to and from our sites is now SSL encrypted. The result is now I can't install any version of Drupal.
Depending on what browser I use either the process stalls after 'set up database' (just shows 'initializing') or gives this error:
An AJAX HTTP request terminated abnormally. Debugging information follows. Path: http://mysite.example.com/mysite/install.php?profile=standard&locale=en&... StatusText: ResponseText: ReadyState: 4
Well of course that won't work! That page doesn't exist: http://mysite.example.com/mysite/ because all page requests are now returned as https.
The database appears to get set up correctly; I've cleared it before each new attempt to install.
I did lots of searching for hangs at 'install profile' and tried things like clearing all cookies. We're dead in the water if I can't install. I suppose I can ask the hosting service to turn off SSL encryption, but that's not a good long term solution for us.

sunnydale commentedI have tried to install drupal on my server all day. Probably 20 attempts. No success and varying results.
Tried:
Drupal 7.2
Drupal 7.0
Configuration:
Windows 7
Zend Community Server (most recent, w/ php 5.3
Firefox 4.0
Results:
1) always requests the database information twice, even thought it has populated the tables on the first attempt.
2) Sometimes fails after the database info. Gives blank page with the following URL:
http://localhost/Dev/D7/install.php?profile=standard&locale=en&op=start&...
3) Sometimes fails after the site information has been taken. In this case it gives a 500 server error. PHP Error log gives:
[04-Jun-2011 17:40:08] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function node_types_rebuild() in C:\Zend\Apache2\htdocs\Dev\D7\includes\common.inc on line 7120
I have changed the security settings on the files and folders (C: is not my system disk).
Note: I have Drupal 7.0 running on /Dev/D71 and it works just fine. The folder was renamed from D7.

antrophos commentedI have the same problem on all-inkl.com hoster. Still not quite sure why, because it once worked before with the same setup.
Seems to be somehow browser related.
With Firefox 4.0.1 all worked fine, but Safari 5.1 beta didn't.

jakedimare commentedWere you ever able to solve this? I'm dealing with it too...as it seems many have. Tough finding any response from Drupal or Acquia on the issue.

Are you also trying to install over https?

dddave commented"Time" seems to have fixed this. Closing old, stale issues.
