I get an Access Denied when accessing an already created book via the following menu selection:
1- Log in as the site administrator
2- Click Administer, Content, Books, then select a book from the menu under Books (you must click on an existing book to see the access denied. Do not select a book from the center of the page)

This is with drupal-4.5.0-rc as of 2004-10-14.

I cannot reproduce this error. Any groups I grant the "maintain books", "administer nodes", and "access administration pages" permissions to are able to access book admin pages.

Additionally, I am unsure of what you mean by "Do not select a book from the center of the page" -- my books appear only in the menu. The "main column" displays only help text when on the admin->content->books page.

I'm pretty sure you were seeing the most recent bug in this issue, which was fixed earlier today.

I suspect a permission problem then. I am loggin in to the site as the administrator, but on the User->configuration->permissions, I do not see an option for "maintain books". I have not any groups defined yet. I will try again in a few days since you beleive you have fixed it in an earlier patch.
