Search for partial words

Gentlemen,
I was wondering if there is a way to modify Drupal 7 search in order to find partial word matching.
Something like this patch: http://drupal.org/node/103548#comment-2791774 .

Otherwise, also a simpler solution (like adding LIKE %string% in search query) will be acceptable.

Thank you
