Since taxonomies can be hierarchical, why not allow for tag entry to be optionally hierarchical, too, via free-tagging? Example:

"animals > cats"
"animals > dogs > Australian Terrier"

Also, when using auto-complete, why not be able to show the full hierarchy for results? Example: I type in "biology", results should display:

"biology > cellular biology"
"biology > plant biology"

Taxiselect (http://drupal.org/project/taxiselect) has a lot of potential, but it doesn't seem to be maintained anymore. Anyone have any thoughts on this subject?
