As the title, a content type created without 'body' field and then the field is added later will not show 'summary' of 'body' in front page. I tried all possible way I can think of and none of them work. Please try to reproduce the result by adding a new content type without 'body' and then add the 'body' later. Then post something in that content type. Only 'title' & 'login to comment' is shown in the front page.

berdirYou probably have to configure that yourself when adding the body manually.
Go to content display and then view mode teaser and configure if and how the body should be displayed.
For example for the article content type, the link is admin/structure/types/manage/article/display/teaser

xtony commentedOh, my bad. I'm not quite familiar with the new interface yet. Thank you for your help.

yched commentedYes, that's the intended behavior. The 'body' field that gets created programmatically has explicit display settings for the 'teaser' mode. Fields created through the UI get the default formatter (full text), until the display is manually configured.
'View modes' are specific to entity types. Thus, field types have no notion about them, and a field type cannot specify "the default formatter to use for the 'teaser' view mode".
