Hi all.
I just started throwing together a D7 dev platform for an upcoming project. I installed the latest -dev version of Panels (7.x-3.x-dev) dated Jan. 7, 2011.
After the next cron run, the Update manager showed that Panels was out of date. Without thinking, I ran the update, and it install Panels 7.x-3.0-alpha1, which is significantly older, dated Oct. 11, 2010.
The module shouldn't replace a newer dev release with an older stable release. As a general rule, if someone is running a -dev release, it's probably for a reason, likely because the -dev release has a bug fix or feature required for the site that hasn't made it's way into a stable release yet.
