SETUP FOR QUESTION
I am currently planning a project that will utilize domain access and Ubercart.

We have successfully implemented the following scenario:

Primary domain
example.com - all Ubercart products are entered here.

Secondary domains - primary site products are assigned to secondary sites depending on availability
site1.example.com
site2.example.com
site3.example.com

QUESTION:
The client has requested that instead of using sub-domains, that we use a sub-directory structure.

example.com
example.com/site1
example.com/site2
example.com/site3

Is this possible with domain access and if so, what is the best method for addressing this need. I am familiar with how to set this up in a traditional multi-site implementation using sub-directories, but have been unable to find documentation or other issues expressing the need for sub-directories with Domain access. I suspect this is a candidate for mod_rewrite but am unsure what would be required to make this happen.

It is not possible with 6.x branch at the moment. It was however discussed as a new feature for D7 during DCSF

I also think some combination of apache rewrite / alias / proxy settings should make this work, but after trying for a couple hours I was unable to figure it out. Is there a known how-to somewhere for Domain Access + Apache = example.com/subsite?
