Append this to the start of that line

USE_ASSERTS &&

i.e. change to this

 USE_ASSERTS && assert(!strstr($word, "\n"));

It is an internal debugging line that should be disabled. http://php.net/manual/en/function.assert.php

There are actually 3 lines in that file that need this.

This may be due to an older version of PHP as we are using 5.3.3 or something that comes with RH 6.8.
