It would be very beneficial to align the 2.x releases from D6 and D7. Perhaps their next releases can be 2.4.

Like this, it will be easy to differentiate what is being developed specifically in 3.x and can be backported to 2.x, from what is being developed separately for each version.

With the first official 3.x branch being released, I'm closing this unless someone wants to throw their hand up to support the 7.x-2.x branch.

With the changes in 3.x, there is little reason for trying to maintain a syncing policy across these two branches.
