CVS edit link for nightowl77

Hi Guys

I would really appreciate a CVS username. I have been reading all your guidelines and have both written standalone modules and helped the community with patches to modules. If you look at my profile, you'll note I made a few mistakes along the way - but the community quickly corrected me (and I duly made a note of it)

I have a module called twitter announce. The purpose of this module is to give a blog user the ability to automatically post an announcement on twitter when a node of a specific type was created (adminstrator can set which node types in the admin interface)

I'm not trying to copy or double the work done by the Twitter module. This is a great module with lots of features, but it is a bit overwhelming for the average blogger. The Twitter module also have a lot of social features - users can integrate their Drupal accounts with their twitter accounts. Two of my clients didn't want this - and therefore I created the twitter_announce module. It does one job and it does it extremely well.

Furthermore, I have created a ubercart payment gateway module for ubercart that I'd like to release to the community.

Your consideration would be greatly appreciated

Vernon

Hello, and thanks for applying for a CVS account.

As reported in the requirements page, the proposed module must not duplicate the work done in existing modules; in this case, there is already a module for integration with Twitter.

Hi Kiamlaluno

You are correct about the "duplication of functionality" and I was aware of this when I set out to create this module. I created this module for a specific target market, ie. the casual blogger. For the casual blogger the existing twitter module is just too much. This module really helps in making Drupal more user friendly and accessible to the general public (the main goal of Drupal being: eliminate the programmer/techie)

From my README.txt file:

The purpose of the Twitter Announce Module is to give bloggers a quick and easy way to
send notifications to Twitter the moment they update their blogs.

The main goal of the module is to remain simple and easy to use, and it does not try
to compete with the existing Twitter Module (http://drupal.org/project/twitter).
Please use the exsiting Twitter module if you require direct Drupal-user to
Twitter integration or if you require any of the other advanced features this
module provides.

Hope this clears things up

As reported in http://drupal.org/node/539608:

Module 'Foo' is just too complex so I have written a much simpler version. This is just straight duplication of functionality and applications like this will almost certainly be declined. It is worth remembering that many modules start out simple also and, over time, grow into more complex systems. If you have the know how to write a "simple version" from scratch rather than work out how a complex module works then maybe your effort would be better spent making the existing complex module easier to use (improve it's UI, write documentation, etc).

Please read the following links as this is very important information about CVS applications.

Drupal.org has moved from CVS to Git! This is a very significant change for the Drupal community and for these applications. Please read Migrating from CVS Applications to (Git) Full Project Applications and Applying for permission to opt into security advisory coverage on how this affects and benefits you and the application process. In short, every user has now the permissions necessary to create new projects, but they need to apply for opt into security advisory coverage. Without applying, the projects will have a warning on projects that says:

This project is not covered by Drupal’s security advisory policy.
