CVS edit link for ChuckZ

My current goal is to provide a template for PTA (PTSA) web sites using Drupal so that other PTA organizations can put together similar sites to the one I designed at www.redmondelptsa.org. It consists mostly of standard Drupal code, but has required modifications when I could not find an existing module to meet my needs. Some changes I have made are just bug fixes, especially for code that was written without testing on Windows shared hosting accounts (which is the legacy site I inherited). In that case, I plan to propose the fixes to the existing module.

I have one module I intend to eventually submit and maintain. I call it SimpleVolunteer because it is a clone of the SimpleNews module. Instead of having a user sign up for a "newsletter", users sign up on a "volunteer list". The functionality is identical to SimpleNews, but the terminology (strings) were changed to reflect volunteering rather than newsletter distribution.

Why not extend SimpleNews (configurable terminology)?
1) IMO it is better not to create swiss army knife modules. Instead, module designed for a specific purpose.
2) Site developers may want to use SimpleVolunteer along side SimpleNews. Configuration in that case would be very complicated and confusing to the site developer.
3) I may want to extend with features that make no sense to newsletters (e.g. integration with VolunteerSpot.com features)

I have 20 years professional software development experience and understand how to write solid code as well as good software engineering principles.
