CVS edit link for morlene.fisher

A few months ago earlier in the summer I developed a Drupal site for a non profit organisation that used a donation system from another site, so the page wasn't integrated into their Drupal site and had to be themed separately.

The organisation in the beginning wanted to try using Ubercart module, but upon further investigation found it was too complex for their needs and decided to stick with their existing solution. In the meantime I worked on another Drupal site that where I built a custom module so that the owners of the site could charge membership to their users via Sagepay.

In building this module, I realised it would be a simple process to rewrite it in a way that it could also be used to provide non profits with a simplified donations system, one that would collect the information required from the donor on the organisations website, pass them through to Sagepay to process the credit card donation and return them to the organisations website where further marketing/customer relationship activities could take place.

Fast forward to sometime in October 2010, when a post on Drupal.org forum requested this functionality and using Sagepay. The requester had already tried the Ubercart module but found it yoo complex for their needs. They had also used the Donate module but as they wanted to use Sagepay, this didn't cover this requirement. In addition, further custom functionality to allow different donation forms for varying numbers of projects run by the organisation wasn't supported.

The poster needed some extra functionality to do with email marketing list subscription, but the module could be easily amended to account for this with no problem. I worked with this poster/client and we tailored the module to their requirements, but built it in a way that it can be grown to accommodate other payment gateways and will also include plugins to process subscribers to other email marketing systems such as Aweber, Constant contact and Mailchimp etc.

The module in it's current format will be going live on the clients website this coming Jan. I would like to add this module to Drupal.org as a contributed module as well. We have plans to build further plugins for gateways such as Paypal and Worldpay, and add the email subscribe functionality as well.

Our plans are to have this module operate as a simple solution for non profits or anyone who wants to collect donations from their website, but also provide functionality whereby they can administer their donors from within their Drupal site as well, thus cutting down the need for replicating CRM databases etc.

The version we have written is for Drupal 6.x, and we are working on getting the Drupal 7 version ready as soon as possible.

As per previous comment, I am setting this issue to won't fix.

Since new users can now create full projects, applications have a different purpose and they are handled on a different issue queue. See Apply for permission to opt into security advisory coverage for more information.
