What is the difference between dev 1 and dev 2 of this module?

The original version of this module (1.x) replaces image references in CSS files with data URIs, adding IE6/7 fallbacks using CSS hacks where needed.

2.x takes a "smarter" approach by copying the aggregated CSS, separating the data URIs into their own file, and using conditional CSS for browser fallbacks instead of CSS hacks. MHTML support was planned for 2.x, but due to IE7 bugs I dropped that and don't currently have plans to bring it back. The final piece I'm working on for 2.x before calling it stable is better CSS parsing. I really want to get away from using regular expressions as it causes some problems that are extremely difficult to work around (and it's just not the right way to do it).

1.x-dev is for bug fixes only at this point. 2.x-dev is for active development and, at the moment, is actually quite stable.
