I think I may misunderstand a fundamental concept of this module's operation. I'd greatly appreciate some clarification.

I'd like to use Views to create customized lists of items in a collection (using the "Contentdm Wrapper" fields provided to Views by this module). But this technique won't work; nodes aren't created for Contentdm items until a user visits the full-page display of that item. Views will only list the nodes that exist. If the item hasn't been visited, no node. No node, no listing in Views.

Is this the intended operation? If so, I'm unclear how someone would use the Contentdm fields in Views, since the creation of a complete Views list is dependent on users visiting the items and creating drupal nodes.

Thanks much!

The Views integration in this module only works on local nodes (not CONTENTdm items that do not have corresponding nodes), so once the nodes have been created, they will show up in your views.

What is perhaps not clearly documented is that there are two ways to populate the local Drupal with CONTENTdm wrapper nodes: 1) in the manner you describe, i.e., letting users view the full item, generally be clicking on a teaser in a search result or browse list, and 2) by using the Harvester module, which fetches a configurable number of items from the source CONTENTdm on each cron run.

I am considering adding the option to integrate the Drupal Batch API into the Harvester module, so you can populate an entire collection's worth of nodes with the click of a button.

Mark,

Thank you so much for your quick reply!

Are you saying that if Harvester is enabled, it will create drupal nodes when cron runs? (I ask because I have Harvester enabled, and when cron runs it reports that records have been harvested, yet no nodes are created.)

Can you email me a screen cap of your Harvester admin settings, or sanitize it (URL, etc.) and attach it to a post to this issue?

Mark,

Attached is screen shot of my harvester admin page. Thanks again. I'm old to Drupal, but new to ContentDM! ;)

Steve, are you sure that the nodes aren't being created for the harvested items?

Mark,

I swear, the only time nodes are created is when the user navigates to the item from the browse list.

It sounds to me that I may have borked something, somewhere. Let me do a clean install and report back.

I'm encouraged to know that harvester is supposed to generate nodes!

Steve, we've used the Harvester module here just recently with no problem, so I'm guessing the problem stems from some specific property of your configuration. I can't really troubleshoot this without getting access to your serve so I can do some debugging. Any chance you could arrange that? Email me directly if you want.

Solved. Uninstalled ContentDM module, then reinstalled. Works fine now. Mark, thanks for bird-dogging my "issue"!
