streamline content_retriever_xmlrpc()

I'm wondering if we can streamline content_retriever_xmlrpc() and dump all the switching on method with use of call_user_func_array, like this:

$other_args = func_get_args();
// do some array_splice here to get rid of the named args such as method, domain, etc
call_user_func_array('xmlrpc', array_merge( [array of domain, etc], $other_args);

Would this work?
