Our staging site was successfully using the Paypal sandbox with WPP for taking payments. As of three days ago, with seemingly no changes it is no longer working. The front end returns the error: "We encountered an error processing your payment. Please verify your credit card details or try a different card." Under reports all it says is cURL error: SSL connect error. Any idea how to fix this?

Take a look at this issue
seems that paypal change SSL to TLS in sandbox

Ah cool thanks I'll try the patch now

Alas it didn't work, the same error occurs. The patch only adds one line, right? curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSLVERSION, CURL_SSLVERSION_TLSv1);

I noticed your NOTIFYURL is an http URL and not https. If you go to that URL on your server, does it redirect you to an https page? If not, it probably should, and that might explain the error.

Failing that your best bet would probably be to contact PayPal technical support and ask them to look at their deeper details of your request and error.

EDIT: Since this is a WPP problem, that means you're using the embedded credit card form. I assume your card form is on an https page as well?

Along with the patch, you'll most likely need to update your server's version of cURL.

For more info, refer to this issue once again.

This is a duplicate of #2263585: Paypal enforcing HTTP/1.1 on sandbox - update client method which landed. It is currently in the dev for next pending release.
