Received this error after all 40 modules of the example store completed and the next section (import ...) started:
"An AJAX HTTP error occurred. HTTP Result Code: 500 Debugging information follows. Path: http://example.com/install.php?profile=commerce_kickstart&locale=en&id=2... StatusText: Internal Server Error ResponseText:"

Refresh just continues to give error 500. I deleted database and files, re-uploaded and started with fresh database and tried again with same results.

Look into the error log and see what the error is, then paste it here.

"Error 500" is too generic to be debuggable.
That said, we are aware that there are issues with installation currently, and are trying to solve them.
Any info you can provide will help.

So I had this error as well. The error is relating to the option 'Do you want to be able to translate the interface of your store?' under localisation. if you do not select this option it will install without issue. tested this twice to confirm.

The error in the log is as follows, hope this helps.
