We are building a site where we we would certain roles to be able to manage an online calendar. We would like for these user to manage their appointments within Drupal, not from an external site.

Would it be possible to use Click to Schedule for this?

TimeTrade can intregrate with external calendars such as Outlook, iCal, and Google Calendar and so can Drupal, so it may be possible to use this module for your goals. I don't know specifically how it could be done, it would take some experimentation.
