I copied the chatroomread.php to the same dir as index.php but it still doesn't work. On the file line 76 it says "$chatroom_module_dir = variable_get('chatroom_module_dir', 'sites/all/modules/chatroom');", but that variable is set nowhere.
In my case the module is not installed to that path, so refreshing doesn't work and the line 77 gives fatal error. Same problem is reported here (http://drupal.org/node/193323) on newer comments, but I'm not sure if the original one is about this, so posting another one.

If I change the line 76 so the variable_get() second parameter is to the right location, the refresh works.

jari - you need to set the variable in $conf in settings.php

$conf['chatroom_module_dir'] = 'path/to/your/chatroom/module/directory';

Ok that works. I couldn't find any place where that trick would be mentioned..
Maybe add that to INSTALL.txt or even better, to the settings page in GUI. On the settings page having the possibility to set the variable without touching to settings.php would be great. drupal_get_path('module', 'chatroom') could be used to tell the user that the path should be set or not.

I guess the reason for not using the full bootstrap (so drupal_get_path() could be used) in chatroomread.php is a performance issue?

jari, thanks for the suggestion, i've updated README.txt.

have a look at the code comment at the top of chatroomread.php. the file is a performance hack. it doesn't make chatroom module scale well, just enough for small rooms with tight integration into drupal.
