Required fields on hidden fieldgroups should be overriden for unauthorised users

I have 'required' fields on a node's hidden fieldgroup tab. When a user with partial permissions edits this node and tries to save it he gets a message telling him to fill in a field that he cannot view or access.

If a user does not have permissions to see or edit a field - the 'required' status of that field should not be considered when saving the node.

Is there a work around for this?
