It appears that post by the caved users are not accessible to an administrator role via any means. How can we modify this?

In future releases there will be a permission for seeing caved posts. I've also added $node->cave_caved (and the same for comments) to indicate that a loaded post is caved, so you'd have to theme that in if you wanted the post to show up differently - but don't forget that caved users will see their own posts so you need to test permissions as part of the theming.
