Perhaps this is by design? I don't know, but I was kind of under the impression that since there is a setting for bot password that the bot would actually authenticate and IDENTIFY with nickserv when it logs in. However, the bot does not actually run any IDENTIFY command from what I can tell. To bypass this issue with our bot I added:

function bot_irc_bot_cron_fastest() {
...

  $password = variable_get('bot_password', FALSE);
  if ($password) {
    $irc->message(SMARTIRC_TYPE_QUERY, 'NickServ', 'identify ' . $password);
  }
...
}

just after the channel joins.

Please let me know if this is indeed a bug or possibly a needed feature. If so I could put up a patch for it possibly adding some interface on what command to run for identification and whom to message.

What network are you using? The bot logins to a server (such as Druplicon and Freenode) using Net_SmartIRC's login method (which is different from an IDENTIFY). See also https://pear.php.net/package/Net_SmartIRC/docs/latest/Net_SmartIRC/Net_S... and bot.smartirc.inc.

I am on freenode. I was able to verify that the bot had not identified itself since I rand info for him and also attempting any access changes to the bot told me he was not identified. He logs in fine, but he doesn't identify which is the problem this issue is discussing.

I personally need the bot to identify since I have written an extension to the bot that outputs a good number of lines to the buffer and he gets cause for flooding when he isn't identified.

Hrms... I don't have an immediate answer for you then. Druplicon does the server login and IS identified because of it (he gets his hostname mask, etc.), /WHOIS shows he is logged in, etc.

Could you enable debugging and reconnect the bot, to see what's happening when it attempts to login to the server?

Status: Active » Closed (cannot reproduce)

I removed my hack, enabled debugging and restarted bot. I don't see this issue anymore so I am closing this as unable to reproduce [by me XD]. Thanks for responding.
