hey
just to inform that module Search404 seems to have the same functionality (along with search results on 404)
http://drupal.org/project/search404
perhaps declare this module deprecated in favor of that one?

niklp commentedThat module is BAD. Naughty module. Consider the reasoning (as I explain in this lovely blog post :)

ember_ commentedThe names are very similar which may lead to confusion. While Search 404 may show the menus, etc., it adds a lot of complexity that many people don't want. I just wanted the left menu to show up and this works marvelously. I don't need people searching through the url so Search 404 would be overkill. If I wasn't so new to drupal.org I would mark this issue as closed.

johnalbinThanks, ember_!
I agree. This module has a very limited and specific task. Which it performs with the minimal amount of code necessary. For the Drupal 7 version, it has an even more limited functionality (since blocks now display on 404, but menus still don't.)
Let's keep these module separate.
