Is there a way to dynamically create the new states? I have a site that is used for managing a timeshare between the owners. Need to be able to have the owners see which ones are booked when. Is it possible to create a new state based on user creation?

I'm not sure what you mean. You want a new state for each owner? You can define new states in the admin screen (admin/config/content/availability-calendar). But I'm not sure you would want to do that. This module is about displaying availability, not about displaying booking details. Normally booking details would be visible to admins only, while the resulting availability is visible for everyone. If you create a state per owner, it is visible for everyone which owner rents what timeshare at which moment. This obviously has privacy/security implications, even if "everyone" is "registered users" only.

So I guess, yes it can, but you may be better off with the rooms module.

Did this answer your question? If so, please close this issue, if not please try to further describe your use case.

Thanks for the quick response. You may be correct, this module may not be what I need.

My use case:

Timeshare website with a finite number of "Owner Role" users. They log in to the site to see to view the calendar to see who has it for the week. I was hoping to have the users "book" the week themselves and have the calendar state reflect which user.

I see. I was thinking quite right.

So the which and when can easily be done with this module. The who is not part of this module by default and would need some alterations from a custom module: add a state on giving someone the owner role; altering the form where the calendar is edited (removing states the given user may not assign (assuming he may not book for others). And some way to display the "name" of the state.

I think you are indeed better of with (an)other module(s): rooms or a combination of calendar, event, event registration and/or time slot booking modules (including resource allocation conflict resolution). But they are not all ported to D7.

Thanks for the response and feedback. I'll keep looking into either seeing if i can create a custom module that can handle the state issue, or try and tackle the problem from a different angle with some other modules.

Closing this for now, will reopen if i can figure a way to solve this with this module.
