For ANR, templates are nodes and by default ANR identifies template nodes by 'AC_TEMPLATE' in the node title. The example in the docs is making a Poll template, so there's a Poll called 'Poll 1 AC_TEMPLATE'. If you want to use something other than 'AC_TEMPLATE' as a template identifier, you change that in the Autocreate Nodereference config page.
