Post-Installation
Once installed, follow these steps to start using the module:

Go to Configuration → AutoAlt Settings:
Enter your AutoAlt.ai API key and other optional settings. -
Visit Any Content Type with an Image Field:
The module automatically enhances image widgets. -
Use the AutoAlt Button:
On any image field, you’ll see a “Generate Alt Text” button.- Click it to automatically fetch AI-generated alt text.
- The button shows a loading indicator and becomes disabled until the text is ready.

Review / Save:
Edit the generated text if needed and save your content as usual.
No new content types or text formats are required. The module works instantly with standard Drupal image fields.

Privacy and Diagnostic Data
AutoAlt.ai uses an external API to provide AI-powered image processing. When you request alt text generation, the module sends the information needed for that request to the AutoAlt.ai service.
Depending on the generation options and workflow, this may include image data or an image URL, the selected language, generation settings, configured prompts, SEO keywords, negative keywords, and other relevant options.
Optional diagnostic sharing is separate from image generation.
- Recurring diagnostic sharing is disabled by default.
- Diagnostic information is shared only when an administrator enables the relevant option.
- Disabling the option stops future recurring diagnostic submissions.
- The API key is not included in telemetry or diagnostic payloads.
- The separate support diagnostic action requires confirmation before sending a one-time report.

External Services
AutoAlt.ai connects to the AutoAlt.ai API when an administrator or authorized user requests image generation or uses a configured automatic generation workflow.
The service is required for AI-powered generation. Existing Drupal image metadata can still be viewed and edited without requesting new AI-generated content.
The API key is transmitted in the HTTPS Authorization header for authentication. Optional telemetry uses a separate workflow and does not include the API key.
AutoAlt.ai uses AI services to analyze image content and generate descriptions. The information required for a generation request is processed by the AutoAlt.ai service and its configured AI providers, according to the applicable service and privacy terms.
