This is more of a code bug than a documentation bug but let me introduce it starting with the documentation.

INSTRUCTIONS.txt says
Installation instructions for Drupal 4.5. [should say 4.6]
6. Go to administer > content > configure > default workflow and put a check
in the "amazon item" column for each node type that will accept Amazon
products

There is no "default workflow". You could say instead...
6. Go to administer > content > configure and click "configure" for the node
types you want to enable to display Amazon products. Under "Workflow"
you will see a blank check box with no label and no indication whatsoever
of what that checkbox does. Check this box.

Now you can enter an Amazon ASIN when creating a node of that type.

It has been suggested that the bug is somewhere in lines 100-112 of the code.

FWIW all the ASINs I've tried so far say "No records matched that Asin."
