Change default open or closed settings for blocks in adc Theme

I am using the adc theme for my site. I would like to set certain blocks to the "open state" upon first view and other blocks "closed". The viewer may then, of course, open or close the blocks as usual...registered users could even change the open or closed defaults in their preferences as well.

Can anybody thell me if this is possible...if so how can I accomplish this.
