The following lines in API.txt are contradictory :

(145) target-name-1|||opt-val-1|opt-text-1||opt-val-2|opt-text-2|selected||||(...)

(153) (...)you can append the element's text with the '#' character, to indicate that this option be set to 'selected'(...)

So : # or 'selected' ? :-)

Oops.. I changed that part of the documentation prematurely. Activeselect is using the '#' notation at the moment, but I will be changing it to the '|selected' notation very soon. I already changed to the new '|optional' notation, but haven't got round to changing how the selected notation works. This will be happening very soon - hopefully within the next day or two. Stay tuned.

OK, it's official: the '#' notation is OUT, and the '|selected' notation is IN. The API.txt file has been updated, and should now be free of inconsistencies.
