I'm moving the conversation from [#]. I'm growing increasingly frustrated with the attitude here towards known community members who are asking for inclusion on a vital part of the community's communication tools.

Here's my response to greggles:

It's not surprising you come to the conclusions you do given your limited perspective on the issues.

lol. I know, I'm a total noob with no perspective. If I had known that this queue had become such hostile territory to new community members, or that my voice didn't matter because I'm not a webmaster or didn't follow the webmaster queue, I would have been much more active previously. The reason I have not commented on many of the off post topics (other than the one that originally brought my attention to this post) is that there aren't that many active ones. If you look at the list of Drupal Planet issues I have commented in a few of them, while a few of them are Dave suspending users without as much as a +1. Honestly, what can I even say to that?

Again: whose requirement is this? Why was it made a requirement? And... why does Dave (or any other single person) get to say when something gets a pass for this rule? Why does Dave get to say when something is 'not high quality enough' (for example: ) and just go ahead and suspend that feed (for example: #714208: Suspending Den Raf from Planet) without as much as a +1 from another user?

Alex - if you have an issue with a rule, address the rule - the issue queue is the appropriate place for that.

By singling out an individual, it creates the impression that you are targeting an individual.

Your larger point (as I see it, anyways) is that is should be easier for new members to join the planet. What are your recommendations for this page? The title of this issue is "What are the rules for Planet Drupal?"

So, what is your rewrite? What changes are you recommending? Why? Let's discuss concrete changes in policy.

In response to @bonobo's comment in #907584: Add www.drupro.com to the Planet (the post I meant to link to above):

Seriously? You actually think I would take time out of my day to lie in the issue queue? I have better things to do, Trust me.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that you're lying- I meant that I don't trust memories (my own or others). I believe what I can see/touch/feel, and I can't see any discussion on this topic, nor any actual reason for it.

IRC, email, and the issue queue is the way this community works.

I understand this is the way we work, this doesn't mean that it's okay to make rules to exclude people from the community or community resources in this way. Again, sounds like a smoky backroom to me, but, again, I have trust issues (rule number one: trust nobody. rule number two: don't trust the person who made rules #1 or 2).

After reading through these various threads, this feels more like something personal against Dave Reid.

I don't have a personal problem with Dave Reid *at all*. Dave seems to have been endowed with ultimate power here, which is what I have a very big personal problem with. I know that Dave does yeoman's work here, as he does everywhere, and this is not meant as a disrespect to that work (you can vociferously disagree with someone for whom you have great respect). Again, I have less than no problem with Dave Reid (I have a crap-ton of respect for all he's done), however, I do have a big problem with how the planet and services sections are currently being handled. Dave happens to be the one making all of these changes, so he's the one I mention. If it was @mothertheresa making the changes, I'd still object for the same reasons.

The second we lose a basic sense of trust, our ability to work through any disagreements is gone.

Or, we join Open Source communities where all big decisions are made in public. The power of open source is in transparency, and I put my trust in that power. Sorry if my realism/cynicism offends you- that's not my intent.

RE: "Sorry if my realism/cynicism offends you- that's not my intent." - realism and cynicism do not offend me. I have plenty of both.

The implication that I lied is offensive. Thanks for clarifying.

RE: "Or, we join Open Source communities where all big decisions are made in public. The power of open source is in transparency, and I put my trust in that power." - or, we can have both - trust in other people who value transparency, and the ability to ask for clarification when needed. These things aren't mutually exclusive.

So - what's your rewrite of the "Drupal Planet" page? Where is a concrete recommendation we can discuss?

By singling out an individual, it creates the impression that you are targeting an individual.

Dave Reid- if you read this, sorry for seeming to 'target you'- I don't mean it to seem this way. I'll buy you a beer or 5 next time I see you.

Your larger point (as I see it, anyways) is that is should be easier for new members to join the planet. What are your recommendations for this page? The title of this issue is "What are the rules for Planet Drupal?"

That's part of it, yes. Some things that get my goat about how things are being handled:
- There are editorial decisions being made without any sort of editorial guidelines. These decisions are being aimed mostly at new users trying to get on the planet, without applying the same logic consistently across the planet.
- When decisions about 'quality' are made, feeds are removed, sometimes without even a single +1 from someone else.
- There are currently guidelines in place that are being enforced for which there is not a consensus. Some that have come up over the past few weeks: jobs, tangentially related posts, and beginner content.
- There are barriers to a new feed (as well as to the Drupal Services listing) getting added that don't take into consideration a person's total contributions/reputation. Both of these resources are extremely important sources of marketing for new shops/freelancers, and we should be helping to grow this ecosystem by allowing them entry.

Overall, I do want to keep the Planet full of high-quality content, but not at the expense of alienating new contributing community members. It's easy enough to skip to the next post in a feed, but very hard to re-energize discouraged noobs... (or shops that feel slighted for that matter)

@bonobo- I have several open issues on this topic... First and formost, we need to rid that page of the "What is *not* welcome post", which has been agreed to but not changed.

And as far as trust goes, lets just say that the reason I'm here is that trust was (IMO) violated. Some of the issues where I have been discussing this (including some actual recommended changes):
#958318: Remove text about "what is not welcome on Planet Drupal" from /about/drupal-planet
#928092: Update and clarify Planet Drupal guidelines

Indeed, discussion of these issues has been going on in http://drupal.org/node/928092 and, in the interest of keeping the discussion in one thread instead of several, I'm going to mark this as duplicate. If you see this issue as somehow different, then feel free to re-open. Otherwise I suggest continuing the discussion in http://drupal.org/node/928092 (and perhaps improving on that issue's title as well).
